Ding Sukai · Yunlin 丁苏恺

Ding Sukai, also known as Yunlin, was born in Nanjing in 1984 and is currently based in Beijing. He graduated from the Painting Department of China Academy of Art and the Mural Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

In the years when the artist returned from oil painting to traditional paper-based creation, they were also practicing martial arts. The core values of the Chinese combination of literature and martial arts are based on the wisdom of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Only those who can come and go freely can enjoy true freedom, and Yunlin is such a person. Throughout the year, half of Yunlin’s time is spent wandering in the mountains and playing in the water, while the other half is devoted to the brush and ink in front of the easel. His works are often inspired by classical stories of ancient Chinese literati and his own contemporary travel experiences. With a dual language style of traditional brush and ink combined with a contemporary POP spirit, the artist can switch emotions and time-space at any moment. In an instant, Yunlin and the viewer are detached from everyday life, experiencing the concept of ‘illusionary views and empty flowers’ together.
