“ Mythical Meta-Language and Symbols will give us Traditional Reconstruction. ”
— Meng Zhigang

A contemporary artist and freelance writer who currently resides in Singapore and Shanghai. Recognition of his work began when he directed a cultural survey of the Yunnan and Tibet region in 2006, capturing the current state of ethnic minority folk songs there. In that same year, he held an ecological art exhibition (“Original Sound Space”), the first of its kind, in Beijing.
His work “Painting Gong-Fu” went on to be nominated for the Best Documentary award at the 2007 Los Angeles AOF Film Festival. In 2013, Meng Zhigang then held a solo art exhibition titled “Not Entering the City” at the Today Art Museum in Beijing. In 2015, he started producing several documentary series, becoming an art director for CCTV4. Having become one of the founders of “Qi Ju Technology”, he made his first forays into integrating technology with art in 2016, developing new technological art with a focus on modern elements and mediums such as sound and light. This initiative aimed to actively intertwine the traditional and the contemporary, reconciling scientific cultural concepts with the mythological.
He regularly contributes articles on technology and art to various media outlets, actively promoting and advocating for public art projects and cultural-adjacent art forms.
In 2022, he started on “Fierce Transcendent Wandering”, a self-led artistic project, and completed the production of its first season at Taihu Lake in Suzhou.
