Christine Liew

Christine Liew is a Malaysian artist born in Perak. From a young age, Liew has been interested in art and has been actively involved in the art community. After graduating from the Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA) in 1984, she stayed on to teach at MIA until 1991. She also founded her own art center, Montage Art Center. The year 2013 marked an important turning point for Christine Liew as she returned to full-time painting. Since then, she has participated in the Ludvig workshop at Kandlimajor in Budapest, a joint exhibition during the Malaysia Art Tourism Fair, the 2013 Korea-Malaysia Art Exchange, and the 1001 Artists Exhibition.
Liew’s paintings skillfully express her beliefs and personal emotions through vegetation, still life, or oriental landscape scenes, predominantly in cool color spectrums. She is fascinated by the process of time and captures the color variations in space with her unique sensitivity through observable natural traces or patterns. Combining her distinctive brushstrokes and textures, Liew creates deeply moving and poetic artworks.
